Many wonder why Mueller just told a federal court he's not done with Rick Gates.

Important to remember Gates was involved in Middle Eastern energy lobbying and speculation alongside Flynn, Barrack, McFarlane, and others. This is the Nader, Broidy, Prince (etc) side of collusion.
2/ My point: Gates may well be able to provide Mueller with info on not just his work on the RNC (and *with* the RNC) and on Russian collusion, but also on equally serious (and ongoing) collusion with Middle Eastern countries seeking nuclear tech, including Saudi Arabia and UAE.
3/ Lawyers disagree on whether the extension of Gates' cooperation is tied to him testifying or simply continuing to meet/offer information. I'm in the latter camp. Gates can be called to testify even after he's sentenced—it's the ongoing offers of information Mueller most needs.

1/ VANITY FAIR has credited this feed with being the first to recognize the significance of the March 31, 2016 meeting Trump convened—at the Trump International Hotel DC—of his "National Security Advisory Committee." I can tell you @NatashaBertrand deserves a lot of credit, too.
2/ It was a single line from an article (below) Bertrand published on March 3, 2017 that caused me to spend hundreds of tweets dissecting all aspects of a meeting media had previously thought unimportant.

Trump juxtaposing the shutdown and impeachment is no accident. True or not, it is likely he thinks that the longer the government isn't functioning properly, the longer it takes Democrat-led House committees to do the Trump-Russia investigative work the Republicans refused to do.
2/ Make no mistake: Trump's ambition is to forestall the impeachment question just long enough to have the Republican and Democratic primary processes start in earnest. At that point, he and his lawyers will say that *voters* should be allowed to decide Trump's fate—not Congress.
3/ Trump will only have to convince 34 Senate Republicans to vote against his conviction, so developing a rhetorical argument that says impeachment must not interfere with the right of voters to choose their leaders is incredibly important for Trump. And this argument could work.

I haven't written on the shutdown because in the years I spent negotiating on a daily basis as a defense lawyer, one thing I learned was you can't analyze a negotiation strategy effectively if your negotiating partner is irrational. Trump's shutdown can't be competently analyzed.
2/ In other words, the only analysis of the shutdown worth a damn is an analysis that says Trump's mental and emotional pathologies are dangerous and mean the shutdown could last a few more hours or many months. That's been my perspective from the moment the government shut down.
3/ Trump's shutdown will therefore end whenever his dangerous mental and emotional pathologies permit it to—an unknowable in the equation—or Democrats decide to cave to Trump's instability, which would be just as dangerous a precedent as that instability is in the first instance.

Flynn cooperated but Trump doesn't call him a "rat." He even wishes him "Good Luck" in court. Also tweets he's worried about what Flynn has to say re "Russian Collusion." What's Trump gonna say now that Flynn delayed sentencing to cooperate some more & Judge brings up treason??
