From ur perspective Sir,u seem right by looking at the excesses of some of our heroes past,&the undoing they have caused to our generation; & that is where it ends, d truth, however, is no man is without his own Achilles heel; but we must celebrate these heroes for whom they are.
Great Yourba men like Sango, Afonja, Awo, Obj... &Tinubu of the present are not celebrated cos they are spotless, but because they have inspite of their weaknesses rise to the level that we must 'adore' them like gods so that those who are coiming behind can emulate them.
Imagine us having brave men like Sango at the present who will & can look at the power that be in the face not minding whose ox is gored; and or visionary men like Awo among the present crop of leaders envisioning new path for the present and the future?
In fact, part of the challenge we face today is because of dearth of role models - men and women who though human display the virtues of the gods by doing what ordinarily appears extraordinary. I wish we have more men we can look up to, and call our 'deities' of today.
Neither MKO or OBJ & or Tinubu can be regarded as a saint as no man is, but no one can question their generosity and contribution to the SW & Nig as a whole. They are like Shakespeare said: "All the world's a stage, & all the men and women merely players: they have their exits...
& their entrances; & one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages."
The West, for e.g, we are quick 2 make reference 2 has a way of celebrating their heroes despite shortcomings. Hardly will u see any French man accusing Napoleon Bonaparte of being too ambitious. Abraham Lincoln violated d Habeas Corpus & many rules, yet he is held in high esteem.
To me, what we need to do is not to denigrate these men by washing their dirty linens in public, but to emulate their good virtues, while we do away with their vices. Indeed, we need more heroes to move our society forward.
