TOP TEN of Theresa May's Mistakes

Retweet the one you agree with most...

1.Pretending that the wild promises of the Leave campaigns were achievable

In trying to deliver the impossible and contradictory claims of Johnson and Farage, she was doomed to failure from the start.
2. Interpreting the EU referendum (and its 17.4m Leave voters) as if all they cared about was reducing immigration.

There is strong evidence that people care more about enabling free trade than hammering immigration, but it backed up her long-standing prejudices.
3. Rounding up 51.9% to 100%

And claiming that she could interpret the ‘will of the people’ and that they had spoken as one – this classic ruse of dictatorial regimes was bound to backfire sooner or later.
4. Vilifying everyone who disagreed with her

Opponents were called ‘a citizen of nowhere’, an ‘enemy of the people’ or ‘queue-jumping migrants’

May then hired the Daily Mail journalist who’d written that ‘Crush The Saboteurs’ story as her press secretary
5. Triggering Article 50 without knowing what she wanted to achieve

She ignored the advice of Britain’s EU diplomats, who warned it handed the negotiating power to Brussels

Even in DeC 2018, EU leaders were asking her 'BUT WHAT DO YOU WANT?'
She replied 'BREXIT MEANS BREXIT'
6. Insisting on a list of red lines that logically led to no-deal scenarios

Each time she gave in, she lost credibility and angered the diehards whom she'd led to believe were going to get exactly what they wanted
7. Telling lies, making promises and giving assurances to people on both the Leave and Remain wings of her party that she broke as soon as it was politically expedient to do so

That used up scarce political capital remarkably quickly
8. Changing her mind (or being forced to) time and again

- challenging the right of Parliament to trigger Article 50
- holding an election
- allowing a meaningful vote
- blocking/releasing impact studies
- hiding legal advice on the backstop
- allowing MPs to vote on her deal
9. Refusing to acknowledge the Leave campaigns broke electoral law and brought our democracy into disrepute:

- illegal overspends
- campaign collusion
- stolen Facebook data
- Russian interference

May consistently turned a blind eye to the questionable democratic legitimacy
10. Taking the job in the first place

It must have been obvious that only a Leave supporting politician could take the country (and themselves) on the journey from:

cake-n-eat it claptrap

to

facing unpalatable trade-offs
