(1/5) This is a promotional video, in which Eric Trump explains how his foundation “raised an inordinate amount of money and it all obviously goes to children of St. Jude”. But that wasn’t true.
(2/5) As you can see on this 2014 IRS document, some of the money in fact went to the Trump Organization, and some of it went to other charities, like a North Carolina animal shelter named Paws Place.
(3/5) Fast forward to 2018. Eric Trump no longer serves on the board of his foundation, and his father’s foundation agrees to shut down. But the Trumps still control one large pot of donated funds, the 2020 reelection campaign.
(4/5) In September, reportedly at the direction of Eric’s wife Lara, Donald J. Trump For President took $10,000 of other people’s campaign donations and re-donated them to that same North Carolina animal shelter, Paws Place. wect.com/2018/09/28/lar…
(5/5) That is legal, but it’s also striking. The Trumps, whose philanthropic practices led to two investigations by the New York state attorney general, now seem to be applying familiar tactics to president’s reelection campaign. forbes.com/sites/danalexa…
