Here is the notice from the Texas Director of Elections to the county election administrators about these alleged non-citizen voters. I will not be surprised if a lawsuit soon follows sos.texas.gov/elections/laws…
The Texas SoS office matched voter registration records with the drivers license database and flagged anyone who indicated that they were not a citizen when they obtained their drivers license
Perhaps the most important key is time -- a person could have become a citizen after they last provided information to get their drivers license. I've done registration drives at citizen swearing-in ceremonies. Anyone who recently obtained their citizenship could be flagged
If this were it, perhaps there would be no lawsuit, but local election officials are required to send a form to these flagged individuals requiring them to provide proof of citizenship. Sound familiar? @ACLU won a lawsuit last year stopping a similar Kansas law
@TexasTribune notes the Texas legislature is set to take up bills require everyone in Texas to provide proof of citizenship when they register to vote. Releasing and hyping WEAK numbers is a feature, not a bug texastribune.org/2019/01/25/tex…
