@byameliahill @cjxfh The main message should be the first sentence - which is correct: The UK will not have frictionless, tariff-free trade under WTO rules in a no-deal Brexit. Moving from EU to WTO terms means moving from near frictionless to MFN terms.
@byameliahill @cjxfh However, the article then alleges that the UK cannot move to WTO terms for two reasons, one of them being that the UK needs schedules. This is incorrect. So let me explain.
@byameliahill @cjxfh It is true that the UK will need to have its own schedules. It is in the process of establishing those and yes, other Members have raised concerns. So the UK’s schedules will not be certified soon.
@byameliahill @cjxfh However, that is not an usual situation: the EU did not have a certified schedule for quite some time upon its last enlargement. The UK will trade on its not yet certified schedules. That might produce some irritation, but that’s it.
@byameliahill @cjxfh Adapting domestic law (the second problem mentioned) truly is a problem. The number of Statutory Instruments that have to be passed is impressive. The fact that there are three possible scenarios on March 29 does not help.
