So a few people have asked me about my reaction to @DoloresHuerta endorsing @KamalaHarris for her Presidential campaign in 2020. My thoughts on the matter and given with as much respect as I can give, as a person with Mexican family, and not quite fluent in Spanish. #DesculpaMe
1) @DoloresHuerta is a titan in Central Valley politics and for Mexican-Americans everywhere. She is often overlooked in comparison with #CesarChavez, but my understanding is that Dolores was more of the logistics of the @UFWF while #Cesar provided the #Vision. Sounds familiar!
2) In fact, my own Grandmother (mother’s mother) says that she marched with both @DoloresHuerta and #CesarChavez in the 1970’s. I recall the last time I asked her about her stories, I told her that I heard Dolores was fierce #AF. She concurred unequivocally.
3) I’ve reached out to many of Dolores’ close friends and family in the last year, hoping that I would be able to take up even 15 minutes of her time to discuss @TV4TVInc and what it means for migrant families in #TulareCounty, and how much it would go to changing our struggle.
4) When I say I reached out, I mean I know her son. And I have never to this day heard back from anyone related to Dolores, or any of her various philanthropic and political endeavors. Okay, let’s stop fluffing and move on to the facts that I know.
5) @DoloresHuerta must not be familiar with @KamalaHarris record on working with #AbolishIce to prosecute juvenile offenders when she was #DA of #SanFrancisco. She supported @GavinNewsom on this over the objections of both the city council and the board of supervisors.
6) @DoloresHuerta must not realize that @KamalaHarris has locked up more black and brown people over minor offenses than any #AttorneyGeneral in history. Namely the possession of a Class 1 substance that she openly admitted she also partook in at one point.
7) @DoloresHuerta must not be aware that @KamalaHarris would sooner #BuildTheWall than offer a single legitimate advocacy to #MigrantWorkers. I, on the other hand, have called for the ending of the #H1BiVisa program until employent is below 5% in a county that is seeking visa.
8) I literally cringe at suggesting that @DoloresHuerta doesn’t know something because my Grandma Nora always raised me to believe that she was among the pinnacle of what a strong woman in America could accomplish. She always instilled in me desire to hear “More about Dolores!”
9) But perdoname Señora, este acion es maló. Senator Harris is not the right choice in this election or any other. My grandmother fought for your rights because she recognized the #intersectionality between our peoples. She marched with you because she believed in your judgement.
10) At this time @DoloresHuerta, I have doubts about where your priorities are. Please support a candidate who inspires us with more than flashy #swag and half-spoken words. Isn’t that what Cesar would do? BTW, I followed in Nora’s path; love to all. #SiSePuede #NeverKamala 💜
