The @StateDept person who's going to brief senators in a closed session today about Jamal Khashoggi is ... Manisha Singh, the acting Under Secretary For Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment.
Huh?
If it makes you feel better, Manisha Singh also is the Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs.
What? It doesn't make you feel better? Yeah, me neither. WTF?
So I'm told she's one of the top State officials who deals with sanctions. I still don't get it. This isn't really about sanctions. It's about a murder. It's also about why the @StateDept feels no need to submit a report on Khashoggi as required by the law...
which means that if they want to avoid the murder stuff, they should have sent a legal expert to explain their refusal. On top of all that, the Treasury Dept is sending someone to talk about the law, too. So why not send State's top Mideast person or human rights person?
In the end, it's a closed session anyway, so I'm sure my sense of frustration will continue.
