If there is a general election, what would Tories' Brexit policy be? Noway, Canada, No Deal, Second Ref? I have no idea how its leader (whoever that may be) can pick one of those without splitting the party.
Do candidates stand on their own manifesto? Would Labour back a second ref or was he just lying about that? Knowing Britain's luck, little would change and we'd end up with a near identical HoC. Then what?
I am struggling to think of a moment in British history when the leadership of the main parties was so pitiable and the options so bleak.

What are MPs going to do? Unilaterally withdraw A50 and take the rage of leavers? Seems impossible but it would work.
Agree on a 2nd ref/Norway soft Brexit and form a national govt to see it through? Again seems impossible but it would work
Ask for a long Macro-style exentsion of 18 months for two years while we finally work out what a Brexit that was sold without any details means? That would tear the Tories apart and Labour is against it.
May ought to accept @peterkyle's ammendment and take her deal to the country. But she lacks the courage because it would tear the Tories apart (it would tear Labour apart too.)

Some thoughts on Theresa May's latest Brexit defeat. There are now two more major votes this week-- one on whether parliament approves of no deal and the second on whether to request an extension. Of these two, the first is only indicative. If parliament rejects no deal...1/8
...it still happens automatically on March 29 unless something else changes. That something else is the extension. So, if parliament rejects no deal they also have to accept the extension to make it count. It is possible that they could reject no deal & reject an extension 2/8
..which would be an almighty clusterf***. The extension could be tight, esp if May votes against it, but it should pass. It came close before and there were quite a few Tory MPs who voted against on the promise that they would have another chance. So let's assume that...3/8

First #Brexit piece of 2019.
Short version:

1/ Number 10 focussed on second Commons vote;

2/ Slightly softer than consensus on EU. Meaningful concessions from Bxl unlikely until very last-minute to limit room for Eurosceptics to demand more. So after first vote.
1/ It's true that default position under EU Withdrawal Act 2018 is that UK will leave on 29 March unless Parliament passes new legislation
2/ However, May has privately warned some Tory MPs that some legislation is needed to implement a no deal exit

Brexit would make Metropolitan Elitism worse-

The Brexit vote was against our London-centric system. So if there's an economic hit because of a Brexit London voted against, Westminster would make sure the London Banking sector survived but everywhere else...
Many of the problems that pushed people to vote Brexit had nothing to do with the EU. One of those problems was the government choosing to protect the banks who caused the crash with bailouts while ordinary people just got austerity.
The rich took irresponsible risks with the country's future, but they were protected either by moving their money away or by the government and it was those with least who suffered the most.

To clarify, I am remain, but I feel a 2nd ref is monumentally risky & perhaps dangerous:-

1. Polls haven't changed much, result could easily be the same
2. Another campaign of hate will embolden the far right
3. If remain win. Leavers will demand another vote
4. Chaos & unrest are likely whatever the result, possibly violence too

What happens if it's still 'Leave'? Picture the chaos, square one. You're simply allowing the Tories more time to fail to come up with a solution. Every day that continues people in this country will suffer
What if it's 'Remain'? Leavers will, with some justification, query why this vote is more valid than the first. This has the potential to cause a constitutional crisis.

People can say 'we know the facts now' all they like, that will not placate millions of angry voters.

1) Thread - All Brexits are bad and what we voted for
It's often said by brexiters that "it's not all about economics"
However, the *actual* Leave campaign was almost wholly about economic arguments

With the leak of this 2-8% report those arguments are now trashed
2) We seem to have forgotten this however economics played a huge part in the Vote Leave campaign, making up over 2/3rds of the primary arguements. The clear message was we would at the least be no worse off and at best much better off. 4 of the 6 below state this clearly
3) & the fact is voters believed we would be no worse off. People prioritized immigration certainly, but against a backdrop of there being no consequences from Brexit - few are prepared to actually pay for ending FoM
