So where are we now? It is now official UK policy to ask for an Article 50 extension. But control of how long for, and for what purpose, remains with Theresa May. And in a few hours, we'll be down to the final fortnight of normal-time Brexit.
Meanwhile, Parliament has demonstrated a bottomless capacity to vote down everything, and an equal-and-opposite resolve not to actually determine what might command a majority. Perhaps it's time we called a psychic to read the HOC Brexit tea leaves?
Returning to the A50 extension, not only do we not know what TM will request, we don't know if the EU will grant it. They may reject it out of hand (e.g. because they figure she'll fritter it away on time-wasting) or they may only offer a different length A50 extension.
At that point, the ball gets punted back to the HOC, who would have to decide whether to take what the EU is offering us, or plunge screaming and flailing over the no-deal cliff edge on 29 March...
