We now know that Trump’s net worth was less than $1 billion in 2005. That’s before he got hit hard by the 2008 crash, which we can now conclude must have left him with a negative net worth. He obviously never got out of debt. He’s not a billionaire, millionaire, or thousandaire.
In hindsight, it’s easy to see why Trump was so drawn to Putin’s money after the crash. and how easy it was for Putin to take financial control over him. When you’re that upside down financially, you’re always one false move from being out on the street, no matter your assets.
This may be difficult to conceive, considering that he lives and golfs luxuriously at borrowed properties that are owned by the banks, and he blows through borrowed money like a wealthy man would, but Donald Trump is a pauper. His “wealth” is all a mirage.
Trump’s longtime fake status as a rich guy is the least of our problems. But it’s important in that it helps us understand why Putin knew to target him, and (at least part of) why he’ll do anything Putin tells him to. Imagine being a fake “billionaire” when you have zero dollars.
It also helps explain why Trump still spends so much time and effort running every small dollar con he can think of. When you’re that upside down and cash-poor, you spend every day just trying to cobble together enough cash to service your debt for that day.
What’s remarkable is that he’s spent two years using the power of the presidency to run scams and take bribes left and right, and best anyone can tell, he still hasn’t dug out of the financial hole his failed businesses have gotten him into. Just how bad of a businessman is he?
