In this digital age, when global best practice cannot overemphasize the place of sustainability in business, Nigerian banks spend humongous time and amount printing often needless BVN verification sheets.

This is not the way of the future.

This is a thread.

Without a doubt, Banks Need to Stop Endless Meaningless Printing of BVN verification.

I sat down at a branch of a popular bank this morning and watched customer after customer pick up printed copy of BVN verification only to drop it at another point within the same branch.

What is this, I kept asking myself? Is that these people have not heard of paperless society, of digital age or environmental friendliness and sustainability?

I tried to imagine the sheer volume of paper used up for this almost meaningless transaction. organization.

Sigh

I say it is meaningless because if the BVN is in a central server then all relevant bank staff should be able to access it. Plus what happens to the tons of paper printed daily.

Consider, if a bank branch prints 200 (a conservative figure) daily x 300 working days in a year.

Wait for it - 60,000 sheets of paper for a single bank branch.
When we multiply this by the number of bank branches across the country (about 5,000) we get 300,000,000.

Yes, you read that right three hundred million sheets a year.

On which planet is this sustainable?

We are talking cost of printing, power & then storage. It is simply insane.
Sustainability should start with the small things.
Sustainable business practices are characterized by environmentally friendly practices initiated by a company to become a more sustainable organization

Nigerian Banks can evidently become more sustainable just by watching this simple BVN step. STOP printing it on paper endlessly!

This is a major way to reduce environmental footprint, cut down on waste and improve business sustainability
