The UK exports half of the fish it catches. 2/3 of that goes to EU countries with zero tariffs.

No Deal puts the UK outside of the EU's Common Extermsl tariff, which means (other than for mackerel) UK fishers will face tariffs of 9-23% selling to their main market.

Does that automatically mean that 52% of people would prefer ANY alternative system? No
Does that mean we should immediately abandon our current system, without consent for the new one? No
Put is this way... If only 30% of doctors thought your heart was viable, with 70% saying it needs to be transplanted
Are you honestly telling me you'd be happy with ANY old heart they happen to find? Or that you'd be happy with them simply ripping yours out before they found one?
The idea that forcing any new system on the British people without their consent is democratic is laughable. And the people laughing are the very people who told us to vote brexit!! #HookLineAndSinker

When we ask for a longer #Brextension, the justification we give will need to meet one criteria: Can we guarantee to the EU that there'll be a conclusion to this mess by a certain date?

MPs approving the deal?❌
MPs approving another deal?❌
General election?❌
Referendum?✔️
Now...
I know that. You know that. The EU 27 know that. Our Parliament knows that. So if they don't make it clear to the EU that they will be putting whatever deal we've got in May to the people for final ratification, it is OUR MPs' FAULT if no deal happens.
That means that every death which the highest medical authorities in the UK say would result from No Deal...
....will be a conscious, informed and active decision made by UK politicians.

After a close referendum result, chaotic negotiations, vastly different Brexit options in front of us, a country deeply divided over them, a deal which does match the 2016 expectations, confirmed electoral fraud and a total loss of faith in political institutions...
What are the chances that the history books won't view those who argued against letting the people vote to approve or reject the final outcome of the chaos as the ones who ruined UK democracy?
Because, I'll tell you one thing for free. Many people pretend they can't see the difference between a vote on Leave vs Remain in 2016 and a vote after the exit deal has been negotiated. But the history books will see through that immediately.

But NI wd need to stay aligned w EU regulations too - & either UK as a whole too (but EU unlikely to agree) or else accept a border in the Irish Sea. 3.

1/ Small thread on Fish - hot topic of the day & cause of so many angy replies on my Timeline.
The big question: How can it be that an industry that has less full time employees than a village - circa 8 500 people - be so controversial?
How can this be driving our #Brexit future?
2/ first some context - not only does fishing (traditionally understood) employ barely a village - but this is not new.

UKs fishermen great decline happened post WWII but pre EEC.

In economic terms fishing is barely 0.1% of UK GDP!

3/ Next the UK imports much of the fish it eats & exports much of the fish it catches - there are complex reasons for this but a main one is taste.

Thats how trade works.

UK doesnt import fish "because of EU", it imports fish because it prefers to do so rather than eat its own.
