Hurricane Michael was a Cat 5 at landfall.

Yet, so far, not one bill introduced to help with Hurricane Michael relief has passed through Congress. Not even a tax relief bill to help people claim their losses on their taxes.

Not. One. Bill. ZERO.
Bay District Schools @BayDistSchools is about to lay off 600 of their staff due to lack of funding caused by this disaster. The district faces a 12 million dollar shortfall this year and another 24 million dollar shortfall next year due to Hurricane Michael.
This is incredibly difficult on these families - many of whom have suffered greatly since October 10, 2018.

These school children have had an atrocious year and now face uncertainty on who will teach them, their class size, even the school they will attend.
The displaced kids in Bay County is a temporary number. The total number of transient kids actually attending school is also a temporary (but real) number, but doesn't count toward federal funding. How can our government not allow a federal funding waiver in this crisis?
Not only does this affect school children attending Bay County District Schools, but the uncertainty is taking a toll on the staff as well. My daughter and son-in-law are teachers in Bay - they have two young children, and at this very moment, *no idea* if they have jobs in July.
Please sign this petition, and tell our government to "Do the right thing: pass a Hurricane Recovery Bill that includes funding for Bay County School District!" It's reprehensible that 6 months after this horrendous storm these citizens have been forsaken. DO SOMETHING NOW!"
Michael, a Cat 5 at landfall and the 3rd most intense (in terms of pressure) storm to ever hit the US mainland, killed 45 people (57 including post storm deaths), left 31 million cubic yards of debris in Florida alone (FEMA says Michael = largest debris removal in US history)....
...downed 72 million tons of trees, and caused billions of $ in damage and crop loss.

A good portion of property lost by Michael was low to moderate income housing and small businesses - the effect is far reaching and disproportionately felt by those *without a lot of means*.
Yet, still, NOT ONE BILL HAS BEEN PASSED TO HELP THESE PEOPLE.

Again, please share and sign the petition! Bay District Schools is the county's largest employer.
Without a recovery bill and assistance, another (at least) 600 jobs will be lost, the local economy takes another hit, and the students will be left with another round of uncertainty - some of whom are still living in tents.

This is America, and this is insane.
Thank you.
