No. This is ridiculous. A congressperson voting for & supporting sanctions on Iraq, Libya, Iran, Syria, North Korea, the PA for chrissakes, they are literally responsible for their actions, & furthermore Sanders has been touting sanctions for years
Ppl in Congress who are voting for things that have devastating consequences for others, violate human rights & international law, ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR IT, this Bernie nonsense has gone way way too far.

Sanders repeats the imperial lines on Venezuela, where ppl are suffering under US sanctions that have killed 10s of thousands there. He knows that, yet he doesn't use his position to help them, instead supports the position of blaming the victims.
He does same with Russia, snickering that their ("Putin's") "economy is in shambles"

In 2006 Sanders voted for the racist, offensive "Palestinian Anti-terrorism Act" that sanctioned occupied Palestinians because they had an election. It also threatened other countries to not trade with or talk to them. congress.gov/bill/109th-con…

Sanders has voted against some sanctions legislation recently but he wants you to know it's strictly for strategic reasons
Seriously, do not mistake an occasional strategic vote against sanctions legislation for evidence of any misgivings on his part about the effects of sanctions on human beings...

Members of Congress see intelligence briefings & the like, they all know a lot more about what's happening than any of us, so this thing I always see of ppl saying Sanders just didn't know something, or he's just now learning something is so ludicrous, honestly
That said, just to drive this point home...as is admitted now, the years of sanctions on Iraq imposed by US gov caused famine & a humanitarian catastrophe, Denis Halliday called it a genocide. During that dozen or so years, the US gov was absolutely aware of that situation
US gov officials were of course completely aware, they were talking about it constantly over at the UN, years & years of this.

In 1999, staffers from the offices of 5 members of Congress participated in a 'fact-finding' trip to Iraq, they went to Iraq and saw the conditions firsthand & met with UN officials there.
Earlier Libya & Iran sanctions, restricting their ability to develop their own petroleum resources
Four of the staffers were from the offices of Democratic congress members. The 5th one worked in the office of the "Independent" At-Large Rep from Vermont.
