The IED attack against police in Dhaka yesterday is not at all a surprise. Though the CTTC chief claimed that "terrorist groups in Bangladesh do not have the capacity to carry out an organised attack," we *knew* something was coming. In fact I tweeted a warning on March 13.
As @muktadirnewage quoted my tweet in a report for New Age on March 16: "... ISIS is trying to regroup and launch new attacks in Bangladesh, esp. attacks targeting security forces and government officials..."

Yes, that was me on March 13, warning about ISIS attacks against security forces and government officials in Bangladesh. That tweet my part of my thread on an article by ISIS' new representative for Bangladesh, Shaikh Abu Muhammad al-Bengali

Based on a reading of that article, this was my warning:

And of course the CTTC knew about this. Muktadir Rashid actually quotes 2 CTTC officials in his report saying that they were aware and looking into the threat. The home minister was however quoted as claiming "Bangladesh now was free from extremism".

So, now we get a clue about why despite being aware of a threat, CTTC chief would say something as preposterous as he did. Politics affecting police work. If the home minister says Bangladesh is free from extremism, what can the CT chief say to that?!

Yesterday's attack, I believe, was a practice run or a preview of larger attacks ISIS is planning against the security forces (police, RAB) during the month of Ramadan. So, apart from protecting religious minorities and foreigners, security forces must protect themselves now.
And no, FFS, this has nothing to do with the "coming soon" story cooked up by a fraud TOI reporter who mistook a notice for a media release on Telegram as a warning for attack in BD and WB 🙆‍♂️ //
