Reminded of Integrity/Intimacy view of philosophies. theguardian.com/news/2019/may/…

When news and access to information was difficult or scarce then the effort to discover more depth was desirable /1
This played well to Western ideas of reductionism and atomisation. To understand well is to keep breaking the thing down into tinier and tinier elements. To understand is to separate things into silos and then count what is inside. This is Integrity thinking /2
However, when there is access to everything, all the time then the silos overflow. Separation is impossible. Static analysis is impossible. People choose a place & a perspective & try to maintain integrity from there. This will fail /3
No one perspective or deep dive (using reductionist/atomistic tools) will Work when everyone is standing on a shifting flow of information that is proximate and perceivable to themselves. The relationships between the people become key. Intimacy as method /4
Intimacy thinking is actually about softening the gaps between silos. Nothing is specifically meaningful in one category, things connect. Context above all links all things to each other. Context is held by people in societies. /5
So the collapse of the authority of News is only the collapse of one sense of it. Thinking that knowing more, in depth, about certain subjects is knowing the news cannot work when there is so much information. /6
Knowing more people and how the relationships they have with each other change with information flows and at fuzzy liminals matters. Digital means we must be more human. /end
