NEW at POLITICO: "The [House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence] inches closer to treacherous political issues connected to Mueller’s probe, including....investigation into Trump’s finances and allegations that he is compromised by foreign actors."

The *last four words*.
1/ Remember what this feed has said since the Mueller Report was released on April 18th: Mueller's "conspiracy" inquiry in Volume 1 was a *narrow* inquiry into a *narrow* criminal allegation that *no one ever made*; an investigation of the *real* issues still lies ahead of us.
2/ Here's the incredible part: that POLITICO story is about how the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence has suddenly become as *bipartisan* as it ever has been during the Trump era. And it's happening right as it begins looking at whether Trump is compromised. Hmm...

1/ Some will think the first 3 parts of the headline in my preceding tweet are Nadler being "political," while his words on impeachment are him being "sensible." It's the reverse: he's merely stating facts about Trump's conduct, and slow-walking impeachment for political reasons.
2/ The worst part is how this interview will be covered (or already is being covered—just look at the headline CNBC gave it). Clearly US media takes *facts* about Trump's collusion and treats them as *rhetoric*, and takes a *political calculation* on impeachment as *earnestness*.

Just *imagine* if books detailing with thousands of sources the misconduct of the Trump campaign, transition, and administration got the same sort of attention in the Washington Post and other major media as poorly sourced gossip books about trivial events inside the White House.
1/ Publish a book about Trump being a *doofus* and the media licks its lips—because everyone loves a soap opera at the seat of power. Publish a book that reports on actual criminal and national security misdeeds by those in power, and the attitude is somehow completely different.
2/ (And by the way, I really am discussing a *trend*, not merely a one-off grievance. Look at the coverage offered to the recent books by Unger and Ward, which contained *infinitely* more desperately important public information than did/do the recent books by Wolff or Woodward.)

Of course @politico knows that writing "scramble" in its headline implies the Democratic candidates are being disingenuous panderers, a stupid premise given that no one doubts all the Democrats running for POTUS earnestly oppose the bill
