Required reading for everyone who feels that "anti-imperialist principles" or realpolitik oblige them to support the Assad regime. You're just validating systematic industrial-scale rape, torture, and murder as a means of suppressing civilian dissent.

what a lovely precedent it sets when large elements of the global "left" come to support something 10x worse than the Gulag, when there isn't even a dream of socialist revolution to defend (in fact, almost the only revolutionaries on the scene are among the guys getting tortured)
(oh & to those who take the "whatever the western press says about those W'rn govts dislike, the opposite must be true" position, you do realise that HR groups all said Syria applied rape, torture & murder on a mass scale EVEN BACK WHEN IT WAS A US ALLY ON THE WAR ON TERROR
the CIA actually had Al Qaeda suspects sent to Syria to be tortured. So are we supposed to believed that HR orgs claims vs Syria were true then, when Syria didn't even have a mass internal opposition, but now it's all lies & propaganda?

I am very tempted to write something about the cowardice, liberalism, & cynical careerism that masquerades as (most) "radicalism" in the academy & the reigns of terror & exploitation it enables, but maybe those guys hate me enough already & anyway what good would it do?
anyway at the moment I think it's more important to try to get the word out that a NATO infrastructure of tanks, jets, & attack helicopter supplied & maintained by Americans & European is about to launch genocidal attacks on revolutionary feminists in Syria so for now, whatever

1/ the funeral was held today for the Yezidi leader Mam Zekî Şengalî, assassinated by a targeted Turkish airstrike while returning from a commemoration of a massacre of only four years ago, I thought I would commemorate him by tweeting some extracts from a visit to Shengal in May
2/ Mam Zekî Şengalî was one of those who received us, & gave us a summary of the current situation in Shengal (Arabic SInjar), and of events leading up to the genocide of August 2014, which the Yezidis refer to as a "ferman", which also means "order of the Sultan"
3/ Shengal, they emphasised, has not recovered from 2014; Daesh (ISIS) may be gone but devastation & destruction is everywhere, the city lies in ruins [we witnessed this; it was comparable to Raqqa] & many of those who fled have not returned which makes rebuilding difficult

I'm wondering if I should write something about the Weinstein case but it's kind of painful & personal, since has to do with my mother.
Weinstein seems to have been particularly bad but this kind of abuse is absolutely systemic, the "casting couch" goes back to the 1910s
3/ what I'd write about would be an extension of my bully piece, in a way, as it's about both the psychological effects on the self-esteem..

Preparations appear to be underway for a pro-#Assad offensive on #Idlib.

12hrs of on/off air & artillery strikes vs. southeastern & western #Idlib & northern #Hama - see marks on map (original by @ETANA_Syria + my additions).

+ multiple large pro-regime convoys moving north.
@ETANA_Syria #pt: If/when any major military campaign gets underway, expect the #Assad regime (+ #Russia & #Iran-backed militias) to focus on these 2 fronts:

1) West #Idlib (Jisr al-Shughour)

FACT: The joint U.S.-UK-France strikes were a justified, legitimate and proportionate response to the #Syria government's continued use of chemical weapons on its own people.

In case you forgot - the #Assad regime continues to use chemical munitions on civilian areas.

This morning, a chemical gas attack hit the besieged #Douma suburb of #Damascus - mostly women & children affected.

A similar attack hit Douma 9 days ago. #Syria
Civilian vehicles, packed with furniture & personal belongings, were targeted by regime strikes today, as civilians fled bombing in SE #Idlib.
