The Books of Capital Camp.

A thread of all the books that I had recommended to me at @patrick_oshag and @BrentBeshore's first @TheCapitalCamp.

1/27
Loonshots: How to Nurture the Crazy Ideas That Win Wars, Cure Diseases, and Transform Industries by @SafiBahcall

My personal recommendation! Fascinating book about fostering innovation inside of organizations. Informative and very entertaining!

Think Twice by @mjmauboussin

One of the most interesting speakers at camp! His books and writings were highly recommended by other campers many of whom cited him as a big influence on their careers

Titan: The Life of John D. Rockefeller, Sr by Ron Chernow

Love the heuristic that stories that have been around for 100+ years are worth reading about. Not many names have stood the test of time like Rockefeller's.

Zen and the Art of Archery by Eugen Herrigel

The Overstory: A Novel by Richard Powers

The only fiction book recommended to me at camp. I love reading fiction and I think it is super important. I always read one fiction and one non-fiction at any given time. Imagination needs to be exercised!

HBR Guide to buying a Small Business by Richard S. Ruback and Royce Yudkoff

Search funds and Permanent Capital Private Equity were two asset classes with a lot of buzz at camp. This and next two recs are where I was told to start learning more.

The Messy Marketplace: Selling Your Business in a World of Imperfect Buyers by @BrentBeshore

The first book I picked up (and already finished!) after camp. An incredible reference guide to private sellers and a good resource for buyers too.

In addition to the above book recommendations I was also told to check out the following:
The writings the @adventur_es team has put together on the world of lower-middle market private equity. There is a reason these guys are the thought leaders in the permanent capital world and their writings are a great resource.

Anything written by @matt_levine. Seriously I was told that if this guy writes it, I should be reading it.

@EconTalker's interview with @jerryzmuller on the Tyranny of Metrics

Listened to this pod last week. Fascinating discussion on the dangers of an over-reliance on metrics in the absence of judgment.

My Dad Wrote A Porno Podcast

I was told this podcast is so funny that I shouldn't listen while driving because it wouldn't be safe. If that isn't a glowing rec for a comedy podcast I don't know what is.

@samhinkie's Resignation Letter from the 76er's.

Sam closed out capital camp in style and his letter does the same to this list! His presentation was one of the most fascinating I have ever seen. Highly recommend his interview with @patrick_oshag too
