She seems to think Jo is more open to this

3/. @sarahwollaston would be a huge asset to the LibDems not least because of her in depth knowledge on health & social care, chairing the Health Select Committee. She also knows the inner workings of both Tories & Leave.

The Remain Alliances have to be built now.
4/. Imagine how terrific it would be if she was at the Lib Dem conference?

I suspect she speaks for @heidiallen75 too on this key issue of alliances.

On the #LibDemLeadership debates something that has been very much in my mind since the Bollocks to Brexit EU19 launch that was so successful.

It was an uncluttered message.

I increasingly think that following through with “We want a PV” is weak and an anti climax.
I REALLY think the POWERFUL unequivocal message that should follow “Bollocks to Brexit” in any GE and all messages should be
#RevokeA50. It is more logical, less messy and avoids the ethical trapdoor of allowing something that we think is unethical on ballot
If we are in GE territory then that should be our message.

Vote for #LibDem in large enough numbers so we have a majority and we will #RevokeA50 and get on the next day with rebuilding our broken country and broken politics.

Spell out the programme of work to achieve that.

Watching the #LibDemLeadership debate on #Sky with @AdamBoulton

I’ve been undecided as each candidate have particular personal qualities that appeal in different circumstances

I think @EdwardJDavey ‘s experience and breadth of understanding is showing

He more credible on “HOW”
@joswinson brings youth and sometimes warmth, humour and a contemporary feel to the debate.

She deals with the issues of electoral cooperation with Pro EU parties better.

BUT the way she responds on the #IndyRef issue unskilfully.
There is no recognition that there’s a difference in outcome for Scotland if we remain in the EU & if we do not.

If we are unsuccessful in stopping Brexit then Scotland, NI & now, I think Wales are being dragged out against their will and to their detriment

We can’t ignore that

It’s been 50 years this year since Neil Armstrong became the 1st person to set foot on moon.

While the historic event was followed by 6 further crewed missions – 5 landing – nobody has been back to the moon since the astronauts of Apollo 17 bid their goodbyes in 1972.
It is extraordinary to think that the computer onboard that 1st moon landing space ship, Apollo 11, had less power than our mobile phones.

This was an astonishing feat of imagination, faith, science, expertise and project planning
My Dad took my brother outside 1 night when he was a young boy, sometime in the 1950s and pointed at the moon and said
“Sometime, it may not be in my lifetime, it may not be in yours, we will put men on moon”.

We had no TV, car, telephone.

YET by 1970 we had seen it televised.

By contrast on @BBCNewsnight @KirstyWark spent her entire interview asking @EdwardJDavey the same question 6 times about a mythical coalition following a GE yet to be called

But generally newsnight consists of panels of rent a gobs answering random questions through their narrow (often paid for) perspectives or lightweight pointless interviews

THREAD: The myth of the soft Brexit majority.

A majority in this parliament needs to get to 320. It's been repeated so often that it has become a truth—that there is a majority for a soft Brexit in parliament.

Here's why that's almost certainly not the case.

Let's start with the Labour Party (245 MPs).

Soft Brexit is the position of the leadership (see JC letter to TM 6/2).

But there are at least 60 strong backers of a people's vote in the PLP & maybe 5 who want a harder Brexit.

So Labour brings max 180 MPs to soft Brexit.

What would the SNP do?

Well, Scotland voted to Remain, and yesterday Sturgeon said: "preferably asking for a longer extension to put the issue back to voters".

So don't count on any SNP support for soft Brexit

#Brexit GE needs Some tories to support it which is unlikely given thst keeping corbyn out is the one thing that unites they would have a leader who intends to step down which is unlikely
The DUP definitely don't want a GE as they lose their leverage and ability to extract bribes

Jaguar Land Rover recently agreed 2 build a new plant in Slovakia with EU grant, owned by Tata, same company who trashed our steel industry & emptied workers pension funds.
