Eager crowds starting to stream in for the #SaluteToAmerica, at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC.
Scene from the media riser about an hour before the #IndependenceDay #SaluteToAmerica event begins @ the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. (4G basically nonexistent due to the big crowd; will send more photos/video when possible!)
I had the distinct honor to participate in 4th of July celebrations for the FIRST TIME—#SaluteToAmerica—here in Washington, DC (you may know that I'm Canadian). I saw a genuine and moving celebration of America and especially the US military. VIDEO & PHOTO THREAD commencing NOW👇
The Blue Angels (which you may have seen in the previous video in the thread) surprised everyone, coming back out from behind the Lincoln Memorial towards the end of the #SaluteToAmerica #IndependenceDay celebration.
It really bothers me how some seek to diminish the numbers of people attending this event (see tweet replies earlier in the thread). Aside from this green open area directly behind the riser, both sides of the mall were chock-full of people. #SaluteToAmerica #IndependenceDay
The fireworks display over the Lincoln Memorial was *absolutely spectacular*—I’ve never seen anything like it. Here’s a small sample from early on. #Salute2America #IndependenceDay2019
Air Force One flew over the Lincoln Memorial just as President Trump and the First Lady were entering the stage area. (Yep, getting back to the beginning and picking some highlight moments). #SaluteToAmerica #4thofJuly #IndependenceDay
"This is the noble purpose that inspired Abraham Lincoln to rededicate our nation to a new birth of freedom, and to resolve that we will always have a government of, by, and for the people." - @realDonaldTrump #SaluteToAmerica #4thofJuly #IndependenceDay
MH-60 Jayhawk and MH-65 Dolphin helicopters, along with an HC-144 Ocean Sentry, flew over the crowds as the President spoke about the work of the @uscoastguard at #SaluteToAmerica #4thofJuly #IndependenceDay
In the 3rd flyover of the evening, the @usairforce's B-2 Stealth Bomber and two F-22 Raptors flew over the crowds and past the Lincoln Memorial. #SaluteToAmerica #4thofJuly #IndependenceDay
More clips from #SaluteToAmerica in the morning (filming an interview; need to prep). To close up tonight, a fun moment: as I was walking I heard someone calling, "Mr. Kelly, Mr. Kelly!" (I guess Jekielek's a bit tough). Luckily I stopped & met an American Thought Leaders 🇺🇸 fan.
The @USNavy put two F-18 Super Hornets and two F-35 Lightnings to delive its overflight display. This shot also catches the crowd on the north side of the mall. #SaluteToAmerica #4thofJuly #IndependenceDay
At around 4:30pm (this is about two hours before the President started speaking at #SaluteToAmerica) the gathering crowd was watching military bands play in front of the Lincoln Memorial. #IndependenceDay #4thofJuly
The @USMarineCorps brought out its soon-to-be Marine One, the VH-92 helicopter, flanked by two V-22 Ospreys for their #SaluteToAmerica overflights. #4thofJuly #IndependenceDay
Speaking of the @USMarineCorps, what the show the @USMCDrillTeam (Silent Drill Team) put on while the crowd was assembling was nothing short of spectacular. Here's a short clip of pure AWESOMENESS. Wait until the end (and NO, this isn't clickbait!) for a stunning "casual" catch…
Also ALSO speaking of the @USMarineCorps (@USMC is the main account I just discovered!), here's a clip of the @USMCDRUMCORPS (US Marine Drum and Bugle Corps) playing “Semper Fiidelis,” also while the crowds were assembling.
"They live by the creed of Douglas McArthur: In war, there is no substitute for victory. They are the greatest soldiers on earth," says @realDonaldTrump of the @USArmy, as four Apache helicopters approach the Lincoln Memorial & #SaluteToAmerica crowds. #4thofJuly #IndependenceDay
All 8 #Salute2America flyovers (Yes—there were 8! One team did one twice) in a rough montage are below. President's jet (not called Air Force One without POTUS on board), @uscoastguard, @usairforce, @USNavy, @USMC, @USArmy, @BlueAngels, in that order. And… the END of the THREAD!
