Modern conversion therapy is happening in many places in society, including in churches and schools with a "welcoming, but not affirming" approach to LGBTQ2 individuals. #LGBTQ2
This approach says, we welcome you into our faith or school, but membership is conditional on remaining silent, closeted, and invisible with a requirement to live "chaste or celibate" lives.
As one religious leader stated, "It's almost like with one hand you're shaking LGBTQ people by the hand, and with the other you're slapping them in the face."
This "welcoming, not affirming" message is a new approach to conversion therapy that is pervasive and deeply harmful.
One common example in schools, includes attempts to refuse, delay, or obstruct student requests to start gay-straight alliance or name them as such.

As acceptance of same-sex marriage and LGB identities have sky rocketed, conversion therapy attempts have now expanded to focus on less understood gender identities with a focus on anti-transgender interventions.
Language is now coded with buzz words like "gender ideology," "rapid onset gender dysphoria," and "gender confusion," which are used to stoke tired old myths about LGBTQ recruitment efforts to bring children into a so-called deviant, broken, and harmful "lifestyle."
Modern forms of conversion therapy now attempt to present themselves as being more ethically & publicly acceptable, yet still have the same foundational beliefs that all LGBTQ2 persons are broken, disordered, sinful, or immoral.
