McConnell says he’s open to ideas on elections/Russia, but doesn’t name any.

McConnell more than a year ago said he might bring the Rubio-Van Hollen bill to the Senate floor -- and then didn't. Rubio tells me he can't even get a hearing in the Banking Committee on his DETER Act, which would impose stiff new sanctions if DNI says Russia interferes in 2020.
Rubio and Van Hollen now trying to get their bill into the NDAA conference report, which would be *awkward* for Trump to veto.
Of note, Rubio voted in January for a resolution disapproving of Trump admin's lifting of sanctions on Russian firms linked to Oleg Deripaska. It got 57 votes, with 42 Republicans effectively filibustering it to death.
The House and Senate votes on the Deripaska matter were notable for the House/Senate GOP split. House Republicans had a jailbreak, with vast majority voting to keep the sanctions on while vast majority of Senate Republicans voted with Trump to lift them.
