1) know what to do

you're lost because you had no plan.

you HOPE you can play the right notes.

you just went for it

how did that work for you?

2) find a role model

every great musician had a mentor, a hero, a guide

that's why they got better
3) practice the right things

most people will waste hours & years of their life

practicing the same BS online websites tell you to do

"It's not about a thousand scales or modes.

It's not about locking yourself in a room with a metronomes.

It's not about playing boring exercises that make you fall asleep.
It's about learning the language of jazz.

You learn jazz guitar licks.

Licks are the phrases that make up conversation.

If you went to Japan and wanted to have simple conversations,

you don't learn the toughest grammar rules

or how to identify every object in Japanese.
You learn phrases like:

How are you?

Where is the train station?

Where is this hotel?

You use phrases.

In jazz guitar, these are jazz guitar licks.

By getting these into your playing,

you too can play jazz guitar today."

HOW TO BECOME BETTER AT GUITAR

1. Decide your focus

What style of music do you love the most?
Pick one first.
This can be your main style.
It doesn't have to be the only one, but it's your primary one.

2. Decide what sounds you like

Pick 10 guitar players you like
Pick your top 10 favorite songs in that style
Pick 10 albums that represent that style to you
This is how you build your taste, style, aesthetic.

You don't have to like everything, just know what you like!
3. Dedicate time to practice

Practice every day.
Even if it's only 10 minutes a day.
That will make a difference in the long run.

I normally buy tables at concerts I attend. Or should I say the company buys it. So 10 of us would attend. There was a time we bought 3 tables because a lot of people wanted to attend that concert. I think it was Olamide’s concert.
One day, there was a concert and as usual I bought a table. I didn’t ask for who wanted to go, I just went ahead and bought it. Surprise surprise... I found out only 4 of us were interested in the concert. I had to start calling friends asking if they were interested.

#thread on Friday I talked to Meina, a new member from the team.
She was telling me that in order to focus for a certain task when switching from another, it helped her to either meditate or play the guitar for 10 minutes, which I think is another way of meditation #thread 👇
She told me that sometimes she didn't do that, but lately, she was told to go do that by @emecibelli.
This is an example of great leadership IMHO.
A lot of times, managers push people to work nonstop not realizing that by doing that, they're making people be... 👇
... slower because they're not aware what their direct report really need to work better, happier and faster.
As leaders, we all need to listen and understands much more the people that work with us, because after all, a company is not more than a sum of people :).
