Many Kurds are also leaving Islam. Some Kurdish leaders & intellectuals embrace Zoroastrianism. They claim Islam is the religion of the conquerer; it was forced on them & that Zoroastianism is the original & authentic religion of the Kurds. This movement has been growing 4 years. 
@_sHx_ @AnzacPearls Perhaps the most important articulation of Zoroastrianism as the original religion of the Kurds occurred in the 1990s by M. Sıraç Bilgin who was censured by the Turkish state. His scholarship was carried out in the service of highly nationalist objectives.
In the introduction of his biography of Zoroaster, he writes: "I kept seeing that everything that belonged to the material and spiritual life of the Kurds was being plundered...; whatever there was that had been produced of the cultural, spiritual, and material life that had been
bequeathed to us by our ancestors remained in the hands of those who seized it.... Yes, Kurds can take back what was stolen fr them, by reclaiming their spiritual & material values, their language, their culture, & everything that is an expression of their national identity. …
We must find a better way to struggle against those who are plundering our traditions and trying to destroy them. In the light of these thoughts, I decided to make Zoroaster, who is known to be from Kurdistan—or at least we believe he is—the topic of my research."
