We talk a lot about the profound challenges of being a mom who works outside the house ... And we talk about the HUGE job of being an at-home mom.

But we rarely discuss the absolute berzerk life of work-at-home moms.

This. Life. Is. No. Joke.
(all of this applies to primary parents, regardless of gender or relationship status)
We have to balance the role of being a full-time at-home parent with being an employee with a boss, deadlines, and co-workers who aren't family members.

for me, that means that I do the laundry, all of the driving: school, appointments, activities + cleaning, cooking, diapers...
I keep the "mental checklist" for the family: doctor's appointments, what's needed in the house as far as groceries and household supplies, when the kids' big projects and homework are due, whose medication needs a refill, who has a game or a meet, tutoring, etc.
I do the cleaning, the laundry, take the trash out, feed the dog, walk the dog, make sure the right sports uniforms are clean on the right days, I check in emotionally with my kids everyday and monitor their behavior and habits.

This is work nobody sees, but it is exhausting.
In addition, parents like me also have to make time to do our paying work ... and make sure it's good!

My husband works just as hard as me, he has a super high-pressure job, too.

I have a sitter 10 hours a week, work around 20/week. I'm up late + wake up with the baby.
this is a life I've chosen, and then I'm grateful to have, but I just wanted to shine a light on other parents were doing exactly what I am doing.

If you are co-parenting with someone who does what I do, please acknowledge what they do - especially the invisible work.
Try to carve out time for them to take care of themselves when you can help. They probably need a nap or some time alone! This is so important!

Also - solo parents do ALL of it every day! They are total heroes. I was raised by one, too.
