Hi all!
After over a week of avoiding all social media & only catching the news on the radio, I feel I've regained perspective & I've also learned a lot from stepping back and out of the #Remain bubble. My observations:
1/8
Labour Party position: in crisis with huge rifts when it comes to which way they would go IF they got the chance to negotiate a Labour Brexit deal. Conference may go some way to getting a definitive position, but JC still unreliable & unwilling to commit & unions hold power.
2/8
Lib Dems position: since Jo Swinson's declaration, they come across as extreme & a single issue party. Appear unwilling to listen or negotiate - arrogant, in fact. Also, still carry the stigma of the coalition, which is polarising - will find it hard to capture Labour votes.
3/8
Tories: Portrayed as 'heroes', a clear strategy and determined - not letting resistance or criticism get in their way of a 31/10 Brexit. No deal consequences played down by MSM, Boris painted as thick-skinned, a 'doer' & journalists' dream! Looking likely to pull off Brexit.
4/8
Leavers: overall sense of being ignored, disrespected & unimportant, which is why they are supportive of Johnson's approach. Constant accusations by Remainers of ignorance/indifference merely strengthens their resolve to get any Brexit, regardless of consequences.
5/8
Remainers: MSM portrays us as zealots, pulling off stunts draped in EU flag. Little credibility given to any arguments, indeed, little mention of valid concerns. Not exactly accused of Project Fear II, but certainly not taken seriously. Come across as superior or elites.
6/8
Overall, it's amazing that, when not focused on Brexit, you don't hear much about it - maybe one segment in a news programme, but rarely top story or given depth. I can well imagine that, if one was not interested in politics, Brexit would be almost invisible or merely noise.
7/8
Not sure how we can take these observations to inform us in the coming weeks, but do think we could take a leaf out of the Extinction Rebellion books & do more to engage around the future we are bequeathing the younger generation.
I'm back, refreshed & ready to #StopBrexit!
