How hard will rival Democrats go on Joe Biden and Ukraine at tonight’s debate? Clear from the flurry of defensive moves from Biden camp in last few days that they are anticipating a grilling. Tricky line to tread for his competitors.
In last half a week Hunter Biden has stepped down from a Chinese company’s board + admitted “poor judgement” over Ukraine role (while saying no wrongdoing).

Biden himself has said no family member will have a business relationship with a foreign firm if he becomes president.
Biden camp has been trying to turn Ukraine attacks into a strength - ‘Trump trying to take out the candidate he most fears’ type stuff.

But danger is elevation of the saga helps Trump frame Biden as a Washington insider. (Trump rally recently featured “lock him up” chants.)

Included going to a voter meet+greet by @RepKendraHorn, one of the few Dems in House not openly backing impeachment inquiry.

She flipped a red seat in 2018 midterms which Trump won by 13-points in 2016. Now faces an uphill task to hold on to it in 2020.
@RepKendraHorn One lifelong Democrat, 66, who attended meeting was dead against impeachment. Very critical of Dem leadership in Washington.

NEW: @Telegraph interviewed Rudy Giuliani yesterday after his turbulent week in the spotlight.

He told me he never discussed military aid with Trump and declined to express regret over relationship with Parnas / Fruman.

I asked Giuliani if he regrets the close relationship with his two associates arrested fleeing the country this week.

“I am very, very proud of the fact that I uncovered major corruption at the highest level of government...”

When pushed again - “I repeat my statement.”
After multiple questions Giuliani eventually denied ever talking to Trump about keeping back military aid to Ukraine.

“I never discussed military assistance with the president,” he said. That stance would likely be probed if he appears before the impeachment inquiry.

OMB relayed Trump’s order to hold Ukraine’s military aid to State Dept & Pentagon in mid-July. Officials were instructed to tell lawmakers delays were part of “interagency process” & to give no additional info. Pattern continued for nearly 2 months, until the night of Sept. 11.
