Parliament is back, and is in the driving seat; Johnson has lost every vote that he’s held. The Supreme Court has powerfully shown that the law is working and that the executive is not above it. It’s straining at the seams, but our constitutional system IS functioning properly.
Many people are stressed and appalled by the insane threats – coming from inside government! – of riots if Brexit doesn’t happen. These threats are profoundly disgraceful, but they’re also incredibly feeble: it shows extreme desperation… 😠✊ #RuleOfLaw 🇪🇺
It’s also completely ridiculous and fails to understand the public mood: please remember the ludicrous “March to Leave” earlier this year… THIS is the army of Brexit supporters mobilising for action… Practically outnumbered by police and press photographers… 🙄 #Brexit 🇪🇺
That’s not to dismiss threats of violence against MPs, and the few fashy brutes who cause trouble in London from time to time. But the police can easily handle those louts, and if they wish to go to prison for affray, they can do so. 😠✊ #RuleOfLaw
