THE UGLY TRUTH ABOUT MIGRANT TORTURE

One reason Dem leaders may be refusing to #ImpeachTrump for his "family separation" (i.e. human rights abuses) is because Obama, Biden, and the Dem leadership are culpable on the caging of migrants.
True, Trump and Miller's heinous atrocity of ripping migrant families apart was not a policy under Obama/Biden, but the camps and cages existed before Trump took office.

We have to be clear-eyed and honest about this.
Let me be crystal clear, again: Trump's "family separation" is torture, pure and simple.

Obama didn't do that.

But we cannot ignore this:

Seems #JoeBiden and #KamalaHarris are trying to convey that they aren't prejudging, but refusing to commit to vote for #impeachment is a big fail.

Warren gave the correct answer: YES.

The need to #ImpeachDonaldTrumpNOW is a moral & constitutional imperative.

Republicans have the courts.

They have the White House.

They have the Senate.

They have more governors.

They have the oligarchs.

They have no scruples.

.....

And Dems have the House, where #impeachment happens.

Just do it, leave a mark on his presidency, and be done.
We need to take back our country from rightwing extremists. We can only do it by building a powerful progressive movement.

#Impeachment is a crucial step in the direction of fighting back but it's hardly the solution. Drawing it out won't change the reality of GOP dominance.
#Impeachment should have happened in January, as a statement for history that the Democratic Party will unequivocally defend the rule of law. Dithering for 8 months has accomplished nothing but allow Trump to trample the Constitution and harm more people.

It's been one year since #JamalKhashoggi was brutally murdered.

This is also another sad anniversary for me personally.

My father died 20 years ago today, October 2, 1999.

Rest in peace dad, you wouldn't recognize this world. 🙏🏽
Here is a video of my father Arthur a few years before he passed. He had a TV show in Lebanon about environmentalism, filmed in the small mountain village of Lehfed, where my ancestors, Maronite Christians, are from.

Arthur Daou went from a small Lebanese village to Columbia University's PhD program in engineering. A brilliant man who spent years analyzing and structuring traffic patterns for New York City's major tunnels, then gave it up and eventually became an organic farmer in Lebanon.

We've just released the final report by @Alston_UNSR, the UN Special Rapporteur on extreme #poverty, on his visit to the #UK. The report is available here: undocs.org/A/HRC/41/39/Ad…. A few key takeaways:
Some have asked me why a UN expert on #poverty would visit the #UK. Unfortunately, although the UK is the world’s 5th largest economy, 14 million are in poverty, child poverty is rising & predicted to reach 40% by 2021, homelessness is up 60%, and food bank use has skyrocketed.
To understand #poverty in the #UK, you have to look at the massive disinvestment in social support since 2010: the end of a centralized social fund, changes to the ways benefits are capped & calculated that substantially reduce their value, the decimation of civil legal aid, etc.
