Does Trump know where the Kurds live? Kurds inhabit a mountainous region straddling the borders of Turkey, Iraq, Syria, Iran and Armenia. He thinks Kurds should have stormed the D Day beaches in Normandy? It’s breathtaking historical ignorance on a scale unheard of in a POTUS.
After WW1 victorious Western allies made provision for a Kurdish state in the 1920 Treaty of Sevres but betrayed them 3 years later.
(Treaty of Lausanne). Why would Kurds, even if they logistically could get there in numbers fight the axis in WW2? They owed the West nothing.
But more recently the Kurds were the ‘boots on the ground’ in the war against ISIS backed by the West. They did our fighting for us and Trump repays them with treachery in giving the green light to Turkey to make war against them. This is also short sighted as we may lose ground.
There are thousands of ISIS in camps who may be freed in the confusion of war. Many innocent civilians will suffer. I have encountered Kurdish refugees over the years and recently went to a Kurdish wedding. They are marvellous brave and decent people who deserve much better.
Millions of Kurdish people straddling various international borders deserve their own homeland but given the failure to deal with the Palestinian people decently I fear it may be a long time but these fine brave people need supporting now and in the future. Trump is a disgrace.

I have been very sympathetic to @joswinson & the @LibDems for the integrity of their opposition to Brexit in comparison to Corbyn. But they must hold their noses & support leader of opposition as temporary time limited PM just to halt Brexit & for a vote.

2. Many of the thousands of prior labour supporters who switched to @LibDems have done so to reflect mutual support for remain & Will not understand their passing up the opportunity to halt Brexit for a few weeks to enable an extension of article 50 and a vote. Why not @joswinson
3. - Agree a cross party platform of a GE plus a referendum as part of the terms. Everyone could claim a victory apart from Brexiters. But above all this no Deal nightmare will end & if a time-limited Corbyn premiership for a few weeks is the price then so be it. Can explain it.

@HuckRG @HoC_Speaker_MP Speaker Bercow reflects the will of the house. The opposite of a dictator. In the poll today most people do not support no deal so he is also referring the will of the people as well. The dictator can be found in no 10 trying to by- pass Parliament after the vote leave coup.

When Charles I invaded the H of Commons with armed troops ‘ & demanded he give up the location in the House of MPs Lenthall at risk to his own neck said this:

As did Speaker Lenthall so does Speaker Bercow in standing up Johnson in denying prorogation against will of the HofC

@JohnRentoul I am depressed that a British prime minister would seek to game the system & even contemplate bypassing Parliament or timing a general election to facilitate Brexit by default without asking the people about no deal that was not put in the referendum. It’s shabby & undemocratic.
@JohnRentoul I will find it very hard , as I suspect will many, to accept the legitimacy of the trickery and sharp practice of any Brexit facilitated by the Vote leave Junta who by a coup have seized power of our state. Some sort of democratic vote must take place before we crash out.
@JohnRentoul I am a lawyer, I am a former Parliamentary candidate, a former borough councillor & thus always have had deep personal roots in our democratic system. But what this right-wing Junta is doing is a denial of democracy which must not stand. It’s more important than party politics.

#FDR promoted the idea that the people of the world, in all nations, shared entitlement to four freedoms: that of the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom of worship, the freedom from want and the freedom from fear.
#FDR is arguably one of the most 'successful' #US Presidents. Some would argue that on the basis of his numerous social policies such as 'the New Deal'. Others, however, would argue that his role during the second world war was more prevalent to his success & everlasting legacy.
