I want to take a minute to share some info pointed out to me by someone on here about the NBC statement about releasing people from their NDAs.

Some are my thoughts. Some are from the other person.
First, it's great that NBC had Rachel Maddow confirm what the entire world already knew about Ronan Farrow's allegations about how the network killed his Weinstein reporting: they were, true despite whatever the network has been saying. This has got to be a sweet moment for him.
However, the company's statement on the NDA's and non-disparagement clauses by former employees of the company is kind of moot. There already has been a prominent producer break his NDA and there hasn't been any legal action taken.
NBC saying that people can break their NDA's is kind of irrelevant at this point because people already have done this. If they sue, they'll look even worse than they already do.

So it's a nice offering from a communications perspective, but it's not as impactful as you think.
Also, NBCU's statement is odd.

It addresses "any former NBC News employee". Does that mean current employees who may have signed an NDA are excluded?
NBC requests that women who were sexually harassed or assaulted contact NBC in order to be released from "that perceived obligation". If the obligation is only "perceived" and not actual, why would any victim NEED to speak with NBC in advance of them telling their story?
NBC can simply release a statement saying there is no obligation to remain silent with regards to any victims of sexual harassment/abuse at the company, and that anyone who does will not be sued.

It's really simple.
I think there is a chance that NBC is using this as an opportunity to try and flush out who is at risk of talking and try to minimize their risks by having advance warning of those who plan on speaking out. This gives them time to prepare a rebuttal.
The bottom line is this: Noah Oppenheim desperately is trying to save his job and protect the company from further reputational damage. The company can't even admit they killed my #MeToo story that was being reported by Joy Reid & I HAVE RECEIPTS.
You think they are going to let stories of sexual misconduct leak out without a fight?

This doesn't smell right.

If you have no intention of suing and people only have "perceived barriers", then there is no need for all the pomp & circumstance.
To anyone considering going to NBCU to get out of your agreement, make sure you speak to your attorney first and get sound legal advice before walking into the lion's den.

NBC's first priority is to protect itself, not its victims.
