ISIS would never have existed if Bush / Cheney hadn't invaded Iraq in 2003.

ISIS grew out of AQI (al-Qaeda in Iraq) and then formed most of al-Nusra (al-Qaeda in Syria) post 2008.
ISIS split from al-Nusra in summer 2013.

After Obama "declared war" on ISIS in June 2014, ISIS greatly expanded its territory & freely roamed around the deserts of Syria & Iraq in huge convoys of US State Dept supplied Toyota Trucks.

ISIS reached outskirts of Damascus & Baghdad before Russia entered the war in Sep 2015

When Russia entered the war on Sep 30 2015 it immediately started bombing ISIS oil fields & 100's of oil tanker trucks ISIS used to transport its oil to Turkey

ISIS revenues plunged by 50% in 3 months & its morale collapsed

Russia did this with just 35 planes
Obama had over 200

The tide of the war had decisively turned and ISIS slowly started losing territory

It was still a long hard battle though, as ISIS & al-Qaeda had ~100,000 terrorist fighters & were still being supplied with weapons, ammunition & food by the US, Saudi & Turkey
