I wondered what it could be about. I gave her an appointment and she came to the office. Of course, she started the conversation with the latest happenings on Twitter, telling me who had said what, who had just been dragged and the latest thing she couldn’t believe someone did.😀
I asked about her love life and she looked down, smiled shyly and just said “Uncle Joe...” Then nothing. I felt pretty sure she came to see me about a guy. Then she said “There’s one guy sha. He knows you and wants to meet you. But we are still seeing how things will go.”
Then she said: “ I need to pass my Fellowship exam so I can become a consultant. I need you to help me.” I asked her “How?” I was thinking she needed help with Medical Ethics or Negligence or something like that. She said “I need you to help me focus.”
We agreed on a plan. Limit Twitter; limit TV; study for hours in blocks of time when not on duty, not 30 minutes after work when already tired. We also set a target and provided an incentive. “If you pass your Fellowship exams before the end of 2019, I’ll give a present.”
On Friday 1st November, she passed her Fellowship exams and became a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (Family Medicine). Congratulations, Dr @etinmagbe. I am super proud of you. You’ve fulfilled your part of the bargain. I’ll fulfill mine now. 👍🏽
