What made us the good guys in places like Iraq and Afghanistan is that we prosecuted war crimes perpetrated by our own people. Bad things would happen, but that didn't make us bad guys, because we were accountable for the mistakes. Now we aren't.

Trump's action is also an attack on the rule of law. Evildoers always claim they are innocent, and partisans will champion their cause. This works in both directions, whether it's lefties crying over somebody on death row they believe is innocent, or righties defending soldiers.
Among the things meant by "rule of law" is that the law dispassionately weighs their case, not influenced by such partisanship. Trump's pardons are based purely on such partisanship. He got sucked into the belief that there was a witch hunt against the accused.
A vote for Trump in the next election makes you complicit in this, supporting war crimes, attacking the rule of law.
I mention this because while Sanders or Warren are unfit to be president, I'd still vote for them over Trump at this point. I'd vote for almost anybody over Trump, no matter how awful. I mean, he was fun joke back in 2016, but it's no longer a joke.
