Labour has never ever acknowledged that it needs their votes if it is to have any chance of winning the general election. /1
- Labour's base wasn't sufficient to win it a majority in 2017
- Polls make it crystal clear that Labour have lost a lot of their 2017 base, some to the LibDems, some to the Brexit Party (or even the Tories for one election cycle) /2
*But* the further you get from Labour's robust core, the more Corbyn is a huge turn-off.
A strong pro-Remain position could have compensated for that. Instead, Corbyn made the fence official! /3
