1/8 Thread on #Article39 & its consequence

Now that the #ProsperityParty is formed, which seems to be the final phase of formalisation of the “#SoftCoup, it's worthwhile to discuss about what will happen to #Article_39 which is one of the key sections of the current constitution

2/8 Some may feel that the #Article39 matter is a sensitive/difficult issue which shouldn’t be discussed now. However, the ongoing unpredictable & confusing moves by the current govt makes this matter highly critical which needs to be discussed/considered now than ever before.

3/8 So, here is my two cents on the likely scenarios & consequences should the government attempts to abolish/amend #Article39:

4/8 a) It’ll exacerbate the ongoing crisis in #Ethiopia & could even lead to disintegrating #Ethiopia i.e. such moves won’t be taken lightly by the people of #Oromo, #Tigray & others who sacrificed their precious lives to ensure that their equality will be respected unreservedly.

5/8 b) #Ethiopia will return to its unpleasant tyranny days, which was removed by the people. At this day & age, leaders will not get away with oppressing their people e.g. one cannot force a partner to stay in a marriage, let alone a govt to force the people to stay in a union.

6/8 One of the fundamental question by the oppressed people was/is that they need to be treated equally. The govt must focus on addressing the people’s demand & consequently convince them to stay in the union rather than directly/indirectly forcing them to remain in the union.

7/8 Abolishing/amending #Article39 won't deal with the people’s critical questions but rather have a reverse effect i.e. it’ll provide the people with more reason to demand for secession sooner than anticipated - as if, they haven't already got too many reasons up their sleeves

8/8 My conclusion is that the govt must not try to fiddle with #Article39 but must convincingly demonstrate that it's worthwhile to stay in the union than to leave. If not, sooner or later, the people will uprise again and, this time, the country will turn upside down for good
