In fact, no Republican president has first entered the White House after winning tbe popular vote since George H.W. Bush in 1988. His son narrowly won the popular vote as incumbent in 2004, but only after first winning while losing the popular vote in 2000. 2/
In fact, by raw numbers, more Americans consistently vote for Democrats for Congress and Senate than for Republicans, even when Republicans win more seats. That's thanks to gerrymandering & the fact that even small states get 2 senators, just like big states. 3/
At no point has a majority of Americans voted for or approved of Donald Trump or his Republican Party, but they hold outsize power relative to their numbers bc our electoral system is set up to increase the power of rural white former slave states. 4/
In the UK, there are lots of similar issues (Russian meddling, fake news), but a majority voted for Brexit, and majorities chose the Tories & Boris Johnson.
