The limiting factor on the next Democratic president's agenda is how many Democratic votes there are in the Senate.

So the key question is: which nominee helps Democrats win the the Senate races in AL, AZ, CO, IA, etc?
I don't know the answer. But it's a question that deserves more attention, polling, debate, etc.

If McConnell is the Senate leader, neither Medicare for nor Medicare for more has a hope in hell of passing.

Something this @paulg essay gets right: the downsides of being a parent are obvious and comprehensible before you're a parent. The upsides are much harder to feel, because they don't make much sense outside the specific relationship and love you have for your kid.
I also feel a bit too seen by this sentence: "The fact is, most of the freedom I had before kids, I never used. I paid for it in loneliness, but I never used it."

The degree to which this web site takes everything Biden says literally, as opposed to politically, is odd.

He's not going to choose a Republican VP. He thinks it's good politics to signal that he'll work with Republicans if they'll meet him halfway. He's probably right.
To put this differently: what makes it likelier that Democrats win the Senate race in Arizona and keep the seat in Alabama? A nominee who bends over backwards to signal his respect for wavering Republicans? Or one who antagonizes them?
When Biden says stuff like this, it's a low-cost way of trying to appeal to 1) the small group of GOP-leaning voters who are persuadable and 2) the much larger group of voters who hate how bitter and angry politics has become.

Maybe it works, maybe not, but that's the play.

Ok let's talk about why the filibuster must die. McConnell's diatribe against HR 1 shows the GOP will block everything if they can. Democracy, GND, M4A, gun regs - the next Dem president's agenda will be killed with 41 votes.

So how do Dems get to 60 votes? Let's dream a little:
2020: Rosiest possible scenario is a 5 seat net gain for Senate Dems. This would require holding AL (!), and picking up 5 of these: ME, CO, AZ, IA, NC, and GA. Not super likely, but we're just dreaming here. That puts Dems up to 52 Senate votes in 2021. GOP blocks everything...
2022: The new Dem President defies odds and gains Senate seats in the midterms! The "easiest" (ha!) pickups are OH, WI, PA, IA, NC, GA, & FL (Rubio!). Let's say Dems get 4 of em and lose 0 of their own. That's 56 Senate votes in 2023. GOP blocks everything...

Despite big wins on election day for #Democrats, a small group of people continue to argue for major changes to the party through the Dem Unity Commission. Some proposed changes are getting rid of superdelegates and more caucuses. Let's discuss what these changes could mean /1
One proposed change is to remove super delegates from the primary nominating process for president. Supers are mostly elected representatives and major party members who can vote for whomever they want at the convention /2 dailykos.com/stories/2008/2…
Super delegates have never overturned the popular vote but do provided a fail-safe option in case the party needs them (Trump anyone?). They also help diversity in delegates because people dont need to compete w/ elected reps to go to the convention /3
