Between 2°C and 3°C of average global temperature rise, the Amazon will most likely collapse and die along with the rest of the world's tropical rainforests, with unthinkable consequences for Earth's climate and creatures, including humans.

This is set to happen by 2029-2059.
See M. Lynas' impeccably researched book '6 degrees'.

2°C by 2036 - 2040 looks increasingly likely.

Even 1.5°C (2024-2031) will be calamitous for forests in terms of unprecedented fires, droughts and floods.

It would take something extraordinary, if not miraculous to stay below 2.5°C in the next 4 decades considering feedbacks and aerosols and ongoing emissions. And 2.5°C means hell on Earth as far as I can see.

Fragmentation & deforestation won't suddenly cease over night. Combine the destruction that inevitably comes from corporate globalisation with abrupt climate change, and it looks like the world's oldest, most biodiverse ecosystems will soon die. 💔
