Let’s talk about @SMalekian & her recent @ABC piece pushing already debunked #Iran talking points about U.S. sanctions restricting access to medicine.
It’s good to know Malekian is quite fond of @JZarif.
Tehran lobby group @NIACouncil is coming to her support.
First, let’s prove how this narrative - “U.S. sanctions restricting medicine access in Iran” - is a lie.
The regime's own Health Minister says:
“No Major Shortage of Medicine in Iran”
tasnimnews.com/en/news/2019/1…
Chief of staff of Iran's president has said in a letter that one billion euros ($1.12 billion) in hard currency allocated for importing medicines and essential goods “has disappeared”.

Iran ready to export medicine to Venezuela
(So, medicine is available for exports, but not for Iranians?)

Iran sent 160 tons of medicine to Iraq for a recent religious ceremony

-Over 60 treatment centers/hospitals/clinics in 4 cities
-5 medical sites in Najaf/Karbala
-10 medical sites between Najaf/Karbala
-Free medicine/treatment
“… Shabnam Nematzadeh, the daughter of former Mines & Industry Minister Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh in Rouhani’s cabinet, was found to be hoarding a stock of medication worth 50 billion rials (approx. $500,000).”

Turkey's Halkbank participated in many illicit transactions for the benefit of Iran... transactions designed to appear to be purchases of food & medicine by Iranian customers, in order to appear to fall within the so-called “humanitarian exception.”

Iran’s corrupt Health Ministry:
Around $3.8 billion spent on corrupt financial & credit institutions, on people who were extortionists & corrupt figures…

$3.8-billion embezzlement case in Iran’s health care system forced the regime’s Health Minister Saeid Namaki to confess to corruption in the ministry’s organizations… corruption in Iran’s health care system has ruined the drug production industry.

For those interested, this is my take on fake news about medicine shortages in Iran & U.S. sanctions.

Malekian interviewed @SanamVakil for her ABC piece.
A look at Vakil’s tweets shows she is quite fond of @JZarif.
Vakil is also very fond of @HassanRouhani, the president & chair of the regime’s Supreme National Security Council. This body adopted recent crackdown measures that led to the killing of over 1,500 protesters during the November uprising.
Digging a bit deeper on Malekian.
Back in 2015, The New York Times published an article saying “Somayeh Malekian has had several run ins with Iran's morality police.”
nytimes.com/2015/04/08/wor…
Process of creating an #Iran apologist/lobbyist:
-portray an innocent face about him/her in Iran
-provide cover through interviews w/ foreign media
-send them abroad & put them on hold for a while
-then little by little, start publishing articles pushing Tehran talking points
The case is the same with Somayeh Malekian.
Question:
Why publish an article rehashing already debunked talking points of medicine shortages in Iran?
Answer:
To divert attention away from the regime & its killing of over 1,500 protesters.
