The foolish decision to take credit for killing Qassem Soleimani has put every MidEast post at risk. You are all incompetent political hacks and US diplomats are in jeopardy because you enabled a game show host to start a war with Iran to divert attention from his impeachment.
If it weren't about helping Trump politically there would at most have been a Glomar Response and nothing more. But you folks wanted to make a political statement for the Mar-a-Lago vermin so our people in Baghdad may pay the price of your stupidity. @StateDeptDSS
The Iraqi, Lebanon and Turkish embassies and consulates should be prepped to be seized. Destroy all documents an crypto devices. Use your iPhone. Trump does.

After K-1 base rocket attack Trump received options. Killing QS was most far-out option. Then when the embassy attack occurred Trump landed on a really extreme course of action. Richard Liu asks about sources. She confirms other @nytimes
2. colleagues confirm it. On "imminent attack" pretext, knowledgeable sources said imminent attack intel was "razor thin." And again confirms that whatever QS was going to do it was not approved. And at least a week passed when Trump attacked him.
3. Ball is in the Ayatollah's court. Believes unlikely they won't attack. Spoke of decision to halt war on ISIS. Also reports her view Trump has succeeded in making Iran, that had looked recently like the bad actor in Iraq, is now viewed as a victim.

1. With Fox News, a Kremlin directed state propaganda agency, keeping about 40% of US voters in constant state of disinformation distortion we may not survive this. Fox News is a threat to the survival of the Republic. We need to use the few legal tools we have to bring it down.
2. I'm looking at Civil RICO actions commenced in every state to enjoin mail and wire fraud crimes committed by Fox and its sponsors. The key is to end the Kremlin disinformation being pushed by Kremlin agents at Fox like @seanhannity @RudyGiuliani @AnnCoulter and @IngrahamAngle.
3. Lies are not protected speech. When used to make money US law can punish the liar. When it is organized, RICO can be used. @rupertmurdoch's machine is clearly the enemy of all free Americans. He won't stop until all Americans are @KremlinRussia_E slaves. @ffweekend.

1. I always fear the @TwitterSupport will ban me for reporting Der Führer, but assisting him in announcing his intention to commit 52 separate war crimes is, in my professional opinion, a @Twitter @jack war crime if they are aware. If their attorneys aren't telling we should.
2. Destruction of a cultural sites as a reprisal violates Article 53 of the Protocol Additional to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, and Relating to the Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflicts (Protocol I), of 8 June.
3. I believe that int'l law applies to @POTUS and all inferior US officers pursuant to 18 USC 2441. Where no death has occurred the max is life. The @WhiteHouse @WHNSC @TheJusticeDept @DeptofDefense personnel engaged in assisting have no immunity per the UN Nuremberg resolution.

There are a lot of takes out there on the legality of the #Soleimani strike, and many conflate the various bodies of law involved, including the US domestic and international law.

Here is a very simple breakdown of the various legal questions at stake. 1/
This thread does NOT address the policy implications or wisdom of the targeted killing of Soleimani. And as I've said before, law should provide *outer limits*, but legal justification (to the extent that it exists) should never substitute for a separate policy decision.
First, a cautionary note: beware “international law” explanations that rely on an AUMF. The 2001 and 2002 AUMFs are U.S. statutes that themselves are informed and constrained by int’l law, but do not themselves *constitute* int’l law or satisfy its requirements.
