For the beginning FTA talks both the U.K. and the EU now suffer from an administrative split that’ll lead to tension (short thread) ft.com/content/bef4d5…
In the U.K. EU talks are managed by the taskforce Europe, while DIT (Ora super-business ministry) does other FTAs hence their priority will lie elsewhere (eg US talks).
In the EU the U.K. taskforce negotiates the UK while DG trade negotiates others.
This arrangement means close coordination at a high level is required, a tough task in trade.
And while the EU clearly prioritises the U.K. (partly because no other similar big negotiation is happening) the U.K. will not do the same. Coordinating two negotiations led by different departments on a technical level will be tough.
