Trump can’t block John Bolton’s book by pretending there’s top secret information in it. Trump is basically saying “don’t release it or else.” Bolton and the publisher will do it anyway. Trump’s threat will only draw more attention and make the book more effective against him.
Trump can try legal action, but no judge would grant an emergency injunction blocking the release of Bolton’s book. The only possible way it would get delayed is if Bolton has to wait until the judge stops laughing at Trump’s court filing.
Trump can threaten to bring sham criminal charges against Bolton for leaking classified information in his book. But if Trump knows that if he actually brought such charges, it would be the immediate end of his presidency. Bolton seems unlikely to fall for such an obvious bluff.
Meanwhile, the fatalists of the Resistance have decided they’re going to waste today making up imaginary ways in which Trump will somehow “block” Bolton’s book by waving a magic wand. These goddamn fatalists do just as much harm to America as any Trump supporter does.
The reality is that Trump rarely gets his way. Most of his schemes fail. Hence his lack of accomplishments and pathetic approval rating. Yes, he’s done a lot of harm. But not one tenth as much as harm he’s claimed he could do.
Meanwhile we’ve got these fatalists within the Resistance who think they’re seeing Trump wake up each day, wave a magic wand, and get everything he wants — and that the only thing left for us to do is yell about how we’re all gonna die. These people need professional help.
