'Bay of Pigs' is half the size of 'Cuban Missile Crisis' when you're pressed for space

3/16 The situation in #Venezuela is complex

@NDP partisans are hung-up on issues of US provocation & they're conflating Lima Group (largely led by PMJT/Freeland) with America's actions

This is absolutely wrong, but my 'Bay of Pigs' reference still acknowledged US complications

@NDP 4/16 You should know as an historian that it's ridiculous to separate the 'Bay of Pigs' aggression by America from the 'Cuban Missile Crisis' that came in response from Russia & Cuba. It was a proxy war, like most of the wars still today & just like what's happening in #Venezuela

@NDP 5/16 In #Venezuela, the Americans also agitated for regime change & Russia has since responded by delivering nuclear-capable weapons to Maduro, the same as they did with Castro

Russia also ensured there would be a coy nuclear scare through its propaganda efforts via Venezuela

@NDP 6/16 Moreover, Putin has since withdrawn from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons & expedited development of these weapons of mass destruction

Trump did the same & they both have #Venezuela in their crosshairs as the proxy war picks up right where it left off

It's because of Canada's relationship with Cuba that we're well-placed to help

That's the only next place for this to escalate & there's incredible precedent for it, as well as billionaire war-hawks who are itching to push a button

@NDP 16/16 There is still time for the @NDP's caucus research bureau to dial back the party's petty, partisan, & fatalistically wrong-headed policy to escalate tensions in #Venezuela to the nuclear level

But there isn't much & Canadians + South Americans deserve better from them
