Today is Rosenmontag, meaning that throughout the German Karneval cities, there are carneval parades. As I am stuck in London, I'll be sharing the most interesting floats here 😊.

(Fotos, logically, not mine but collected from media, twitter etc)
Seems appropriate to start with a Brexit-related one. From Dusseldorf's #Rosenmontagszug #Karneval

A sad depiction of the state of German politics, also from Dusseldorf.

Float number 1 in Dusseldorf 👇.
A reminder that "words turn into acts".
#Hanau #Rosenmontagszug
In Cologne, the cathedral also cries over the victims of the terror attack in #Hanau
#Rosenmontagszug
Dusseldorf takes on Facebook - and the apparent inability of the law to get radicalisation, hate, and agitation on the plattform under control.
#Karneval #Rosenmontagszug
Climate change is on the karnevalists' minds: in Dusseldorf there is a float criticising Brazilian president Bolsonaro for cutting down forests, and one reminding us that the fires in Australia aren't a local problem: "Australia is everywhere".
Cologne also has a #Brexit float.
Donald Trump as Pennywise in Cologne #Rosenmontagszug
#Karneval
Trump is a favourite target of Germany's karnevalists. These are from previous years
Dusseldorf's Carnevals-virus in a battle of the wills against the Corona-virua
#Rosenmontag #Karneval
Trump again, this time on a float appealing to the US and Iran to "make love not war".

Also from Dusseldorf #Rosenmontagszug
Mainz also has Trump (easy target...) - here as Nero who sings his own praise on Twitter while the Capitol burns.
#Karneval
(And to make this a bit more relevant to the stuff I usually post, I'd like to report that the police in Mainz is using #drones to monitor their #Rosenmontagszug.)
To not create the wrong impression - there are of course also lots of domestic policy issues on the floats. Such as the colourless SPD. 👇
And the head of the Green party, Habeck, surfing on a Greta-wave (of popularity) in Cologne.
#Rosenmontag #Karneval
Mainz's take on the conflict in Syria: A remote-controlled Turkey, following Putin's orders.
#Karneval
Quite a lot of environment-related floats in Cologne and Munster - about plastic in the sea, air pollution - and the Belgian nuclear plant Thiange, which is right on the German border and considered rather unsafe.
