What's it going to take for folks to build out an @awslambda ecosystem that makes sense?

I'd like to grab purpose-built functions that do one thing well, not "giant applications."

Some examples:
* "Supply it an S3 object, it lints it in a variety of languages and returns status."
* A URL shortener that works.
* An authorizer function suitable for casual "the password is X" that doesn't need a full-blown auth story.
* A URL validator. Send it a URL, it checks the link.
I shouldn't have to build all of these myself, nor should I have to crawl a pile of blog posts, disjointed GitHub repos, and other "joyful" things. Am I alone here?

So I screwed something up massively in this video, and I'd like to apologize for it.
No, not the "talking about Nazis" thing. I'm the Jewish grandson of a survivor; my relationship with the Holocaust is both complicated and not something I'm going to discuss today. We all walk our own paths.
What I screwed up on was a throwaway comment. Midway through, one character turns to another and mentions getting Terabytes and Gigabytes confused. It's a good line, except it's the only line in the entire video spoken by a woman.

Xmas 2010 - bored - I accidentally applied to write a paper on cybersecurity in the cloud, and like many at that time I was struggling to work out what "cloud" meant - which lead me to Simon's @oscon presentation: (2/n)

06/01/2019 - 78 years ago today, the longest-serving #UnitedStates #President, #Franklin D. #Roosevelt (#FDR) addressed the 77th #Congress with his "#Four #Freedoms" speech with the intent to shift #US #foreign #policy from that of #neutrality to #interventionist.
#FDR promoted the idea that the people of the world, in all nations, shared entitlement to four freedoms: that of the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom of worship, the freedom from want and the freedom from fear.
#FDR is arguably one of the most 'successful' #US Presidents. Some would argue that on the basis of his numerous social policies such as 'the New Deal'. Others, however, would argue that his role during the second world war was more prevalent to his success & everlasting legacy.

When I tell people I am the founding PM on Lambda, the question I often get is how the idea for #AWS Lambda/#Serverless came about in the first place. The truth is, its way too hard to point to one person/event as the defining moment.
It took 100s of customer conversations notes from multiple AWS folks where they told us 1/all the things they wanted to minimize/ not do at all while building applications; 2/architectural patterns they were repeating and wanted a way to build into their development flow.
It took some serious leaps of faith and acceptance of risk from the people involved, and a constant iteration on what we wanted the final product to look like. This is where I first saw the AMZN "Working backwards" process in action and its brilliance in driving the right focus.
