‘A policeman was killed, an intelligence officer was murdered & dumped in a drain. At least 38 people have died: shot, beaten, burned. At the Trump banquet, the Navy band played “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.”’

The ‘Titanic-like’ detail in this hard-hitting piece by @Samanth_S.
Have I read this right? Delhi High Court now entertains petition against those calling out hate speech?

“The plan of this Urban Naxal group was to defame India, to paint India as Failed State & thus to bleed my Mother India internationally, economically..”livelaw.in/news-updates/d…
An important comment from @PriyamvadaGopal for those reporting on the situation in Delhi. This isn’t an equal conflict but deeply rooted in the Indian government’s systematic approach towards its Muslim minority population that has triggered this.
#AnotherIndia. More eyewitness accounts, and stories of courageous humanity amidst crazed, inexplicable inhumanity.
“We are being led by a man whose political career has been marked by the blood of innocents. But the cost of Modi giving his blessing to bloodshed is being paid by the people of this country who fear this democracy will never be the same again.”@RanaAyyub

“The message from the BJP is clear: Elect whomever you like. We are still in power. Call the police; they work for us. Appeal to the courts; we’ll neutralize any judges who don’t toe our line. Continue to dissent, and we will set the mob on you.”

After a shocking week in Delhi, that these people can march through the capital shouting deaths threats is a sign of how seriously India’s secular democracy is under threat. The silence of the PM rebounds loudly.
And yet more of this. People just wandering around one of Delhi’s main metro stations, shouting death threats to “traitors”, apparently unhindered. India’s darkness, guarded by the conspiracy of silence at the highest levels.

Take a look at PM Modi’s Twitter feed. No condolences. No condemnation for what has happened in Delhi this week, bar two anodyne tweets mid-week. No visits to those who suffered.

India is apparently Business as Normal.

This is the normalisation of hate.
More on the state of India’s Supreme Court. Bizarre comments from the Chief Justice of India’s on the Court’s role this week.
Fuller version of the bizarre comments from the Chief Justice of India on #DelhiViolence. There is strength in the rule of law. And the Courts can and should underline that - as the Delhi High Court did in a midnight sitting last week.

Important work by @BDUTT telling the human stories of the inhuman horror in Delhi last week. I recommend her timeline for those who want to understand what has happened.

Modi and senior govt silence speaks volumes.
The allegations of police complicity, as in Delhi 1984 against the Sikhs, keep growing. More here from BBC India.
This is how the state feeds impunity - no accountability, no consequence enables people to believe they have done nothing wrong. People now boasting about #DelhiViolence.
