The coronavirus outbreak is an opportunity for the United States to rebuild its industries and decrease if not eliminate entirely its dependence on Chinese manufacturing. It will be profitable and much cheaper in the long run, and more importantly: it will create American jobs.
We know the right is onboard with this. The left should be onboard with bringing manufacturing jobs back home to America, too and for a multitude of reasons. For starters, American production is not exploitative to workers, safer, cleaner and environmentally conscious.
Corporations would of course see lower profit margins, but who cares. This would mean more jobs for Americans with higher wages for everyone. What's not to like? The only people who are going to be opposed to this proposal are libertarians and Koch sycophants, not conservatives.
